About Pure Checkers
A free checkers game that opens and plays in one click — built by a small independent studio, not a games portal.
What Pure Checkers Is
Pure Checkers is a browser-based checkers (draughts) game. Open the page and the board is already set up: 24 pieces, 64 squares, your move. There is no signup, no download, no app to install and nothing to pay for — not now and not after a trial. It works on a desktop, a laptop or a tablet.
Alongside the classic 8×8 game you can play Chinese Checkers, two-player checkers on one device, and draughts — the British name for the same game. The written guides cover the rules, kings, multi-jumps and the board setup.
Who Makes It
Pure Checkers is built and maintained by Yoda Games, an independent studio that makes free browser games. We are a small team — we write the game engine, the rules guides and the site itself. There is no publisher and no games network behind this.
Because we build the engine ourselves, the rules on our guide pages are the same rules running on the board you play: forced captures, multi-jumps, crowning. If a guide says a piece must jump, the game makes it jump.
What This Site Is Not
- Not a gambling site. There is nothing to bet, deposit or win. No money changes hands anywhere on this site.
- Not a free trial. There is no paid tier, no premium unlock and no “pro” version waiting behind a wall.
- Not an account system. We do not ask for your name, email or age. Nothing is saved to a profile because there are no profiles.
- Not a games portal. We link to a handful of our own other games in the footer, and to nothing else.
Who It Is For
Mostly three groups: people who want a quick game on a break, people learning or re-learning the rules, and activity staff and librarians looking for something residents or visitors can use without an account or a device setup. The last group is why the board loads with no splash screen, no login prompt and no cookie wall.
A Note on Accessibility
We want to be straight about this rather than overclaim: the board scales with your screen and the pieces are high-contrast, but Pure Checkers does not currently have a large-piece mode, a zoom control or a screen-reader-optimised board. If those matter to you, tell us — requests genuinely set the order we build things in.
Get Started
The fastest route is simply the board. If you would rather read first, the rules page takes about three minutes and covers everything you need for a full game.
